4 Products That I Used to Clear Acne & Balance My Oily Skin FAST

4 Products That I Used to Clear Acne & Balance My Oily Skin FAST

As many of you who follow me on Instagram may know, I suffer with Acne and have very oily skin.

My acne was the worst for me when I was in middle and high school (probably due to hormones). During college it started to calm down a lot! College is also when I started getting microdermabrasion treatments and saw a dermatologist for my skin.

Over the years, I’ve tried a ton of different skincare lines, and prescription products for acne. Some of them worked, and many didn’t.

After years of experimenting with many different treatments and products, below are the top 4 things that have helped me breakout less over time and overall improve my skin:

1. Naturopathica Pumpkin Enzyme Peel

I discovered this brand and product when I was in college, while at a spa (Callaway Gardens) with my mom. We saw it, and decided to purchase it, and we both ended up loving it! We would take trips to Callaway Gardens (about 40 mins from my house) just to pick up more of this mask when we ran out (that’s how good it is LOL). Pumpkin is a powerful antioxidant, and contains vitamins A, C, E that help fight sun damage and wrinkles, and naturally exfoliate dead skin cells. I also love this brand because it’s a clean brand, that only uses safe and sustainable ingredients. Though I don’t use this one as much anymore, it’s still my top favorites as far as pumpkin masks go!

2. Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask

I share this one a lot over on my Instagram. This is a mask that I use weekly (no more than once per week)! It is more on the pricier side (one of my favorite luxury skincare items), but is worth EVERY PENNY! My skin instantly glows after using this mask. It’s also a great one for removing dull skin, and unclogging blocked pores. Tata Harper is also a clean brand that contains no GMO’s, artificial fragrances, fillers, or toxins!

3. Apple Cider Vinegar + Witch Hazel + Lavender oil & Water HOMEMADE Mix

This is one of my homemade remedies I started using around 2014-2015. I used this as my toner for YEARS. I used the Bragg Organic Apple Cider Vinegar and would normally purchase my with hazel form the Vitamin Shoppe.

I visited a professional esthetician last year, who warned me that apple cider is actually really drying for the skin. Even though I do have very oily skin, drying it out too much doesn’t help at all, and can cause the skin to produce EVEN MORE oils to make up for the loss of too much oil. Since that visit, I’ve stopped using this. Though I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this to anyone now, since I’ve learned about apple cider being very drying to the skin, it was a more affordable toner for me to use at the time that helped improve my skin. If this is something you try, I make sure you mix more water than apple cider, and don’t use everyday.

4. Facial Steamer

I purchased an at home steamer for my mom last year, and then purchased one for myself this year. Growing up, my mom would boil a pot of water, hold a towel over her head and hover over the hot pot of water to steam her face. She never purchased am actual steamer, so I definitely wanted to purchase one for her first. LOL.

I bought one from Amazon for myself this year, and use it at least once a week as I mask! Steaming is excellent to incorporate into your skincare routine, but should be limited to once per week. Steaming opens up your pores so your skincare ingredients can better penetrate your skin and also helps to soften the skin. I love to add a few drops of lavender oil to really give myself a spa experience at home as I steam.

Let me know what have been some game-changers for you in your skincare routine!
